Juicing for Digestion

Juicing for Digestion

For people like us who suffer from gastrointestinal diseases, juicing can offer several benefits. I recently started juicing because I suffer from constipation due to my Crohn’s Disease. Juicing helps provide me with the nutrients of those fruits and vegetables, minus the cramping, bloating and constipation I get at times.

Here are just a few of the many benefits of juicing:

Ease in digestion: juicing removes insoluble fiber making it easier for digestion and the processing of nutrients especially for persons with IBS related disorders.

Hydration: many fruits and vegetables have high water content. Increasing your water intake increases ease in digestion.

Anti-Inflammatory: certain fruits and vegetables have anti-inflammatory properties that may help alleviate pain, discomfort and bloating.

Absorption: For those who suffer from Crohn’s Disease or Celiac Disease, juicing can provide a concentrated amount of nutrients in a more absorbable way.

A few juicing tips:

1. Juice your ingredients weekly (to save you time) and one ingredient at a time.

2. Separate each ingredient into glass jars (small mason jars work the best).

3. Mix up the flavors for variety, experimenting with what tastes good to you.

4. I suggest only consuming about 4 oz of your mixture per day.

The freshness tastes great and provides a better alternative to the stuff from the grocery store. If you are considering juicing be sure to consult with your doctor beforehand to ensure that it is safe and appropriate for you. This is not medical advice and I am clearly not a doctor :)
